After a long time of planning, designing, and building, Saturday the 20th of March 2021 heralded the launch of Glenda’s Guest Suites’ Conference Shack with a conference of 25 people. Designed to cater for the corporate market, the Conference Shack is also perfect for baby showers, kitchen teas, painting or crafting classes, and any other event that doesn’t involve loud music and noise.
The open air conference venue is constructed from corrugated iron and rough pine planks and canvas tent fronts, there are ample plugs to charge cellphones and laptops. Lighting is fabulous and cooling and heating is done with fans and heaters, so there are no stuffy aircons. The large 65inch smart TV is linked to laptops via 3 HDMI cables, Bluetooth, or USB. It can be linked to Netflix, DSTV Now, YouTube, and whatever else you require, quickly and efficiently. Saturday’s group finished their meeting at 4 pm and switched over to DSTV Now to watch the rugby! The Conference Shack also has a whiteboard and flipchart and provision for a projector if required. The WiFi is good and Conference Shack provides notepads, pens, water, cordials, and mints.
The new structure adjoins Glenda’s Guest Suites’ lapa area, making the flow easy from conference to lapa for teas and lunches and then a legendary braai afterwards. The Conference Shack seats a maximum of 30 people on the comfiest of camping chairs with their own built-in side table for coffee cup and pockets for phones and keys and so on. Each attendee gets their own individual fold-up desk which they can move anywhere and into any format – schoolroom, boardroom, circle, or whatever. It’s a warm and friendly vibe. The whole atmosphere is unlike anything else in any conference room anywhere, and you really get the feeling that you are in the country with the birds and creatures around you, chatting to colleagues rather than sitting in a formal boardroom.
Glenda’s Guest Suites provide full catering to fit the budget. For Saturday’s event, they provided homemade muffins and crunchies for arrival and first tea and scones and brownies for afternoon tea with all the trimmings. Lunch was delicious chicken and pineapple wraps with sweet potato crisps. Dinner was a spit braai and Glenda’s Guest Suites also hired in a soft-serve ice cream machine at the client's request.
